Anugraha School for the Intellectually Disabled was established to provide care, education, training and opportunities to children with special needs.

The school seeks to help every child develop according to their individual capacity and talents, while encouraging self-confidence, self-reliance, dignity and meaningful participation in society.

The Vision of Anugraha is to shed rays of hope and spread hands of blessing in the lives of children with special needs, by enabling them to be self-confident, self-reliant noble citizens of the nation, as far as possible.

Our Mission

To realize this vision by imparting basic education to special children by developing their fine motor skills, training them in daily living skills and self-care, teaching them to express themselves through proper gestures, and providing occupational training in gardening, stitching, door mat making, simple art and craft works, preparing phenyl lotion, imitation ornaments, singing, dancing and yoga, as suitable to the capacity and talents of each individual.

♡ Our History

A Journey that Began with Compassion.

1994 The beginning of Anugraha School

Anugraha School was founded in 1994 by the Sisters of the Destitute Congregation, which originated in Kerala.

The inspiration behind the school came from Sr. Jecintha Neerackal SD, the former Principal of the School of Nursing at Madras General Hospital and the first Superior of the SD Convent.

Her life-changing encounter with a mentally challenged teenager wandering unclothed in the streets of Vyasarpadi deeply moved her. This incident revealed the urgent need to care for such individuals and led to the establishment of Anugraha School.

The school began in a small house with just six children. Today, it functions under SD for Social Welfare, a registered non-profit organization dedicated to the care and empowerment of the underprivileged for the past 32 years.

A Day Filled with Learning & Growth.

School Hours

9:15 AM – 3:30 PM Monday to Friday

The school follows the Tamil Nadu academic calendar.

A Typical Day at Anugraha

Each day begins with an assembly including prayer, mass drill, newspaper reading and Biblical quotations.

Classes and educational activities continue throughout the school day, with learning adapted to the abilities of each child.

Therapy, life skills, vocational, creative and developmental activities are included according to individual needs.

Classes conclude at 3:30 p.m. after group activities such as games and recreation.

Every Friday, a prayer meeting is conducted for the staff, followed by evaluation and feedback to improve the work and boost morale.
